I'll Drink to This

I've been given carte blanche in our kitchen design.

...to pick out a wine refrigerator, that is.

This is a very important decision for me, as I want functionality, but also a nice display for my wine collection. Most importantly, however, I want safe temperature-controlled storage for my wine. You can never be too careful when you're caring for a case of 2000 Chateau Haut-Brion, after all.

...okay fine...it's only Charles Shaw. ...and I only have 6 of 'em. I still need the refrigerator.

We're not there yet, in our renovation, but someday we'll have an island in the middle of the kitchen. The idea is to build a wine cellar into the island, where it can be on display in the kitchen and, most importantly, the wine can be close by.

With that in mind, I'm doing a little browsing today for the perfect cellar. I know it needs to fit under the counter top, but other than that I'm free to go with whatever catches my eye. Here are a couple possibilities:

I like the look of this one. The stainless steel framed door will match our appliances well and I also like the ability to have two different zones set with two different temperatures. The 50 bottle capacity is a pretty good size for an under the counter top wine cellar. It's available for $999.

For a little less ($699) I could go for the 23 bottle version of the same wine cellar. It still has the two temperature zones, just half the capacity. On the other hand, there's still plenty of room for my 6 Charles Shaws.

Adjustable, slide-out shelves...glass doors...117 bottle capacity...this EuroCave wine cellar has it all. Okay, maybe it doesn't have duel zone, but it has a lot. Did I mention the 117 bottle capacity? It's uh...slightly more expensive than the N-Finity ($1,795)...but...on a per-bottle basis, it really only costs half as much.

See. I knew my finance background would benefit me at some point.

Now I could use a drink for real. Where's my 2 Buck Chuck?
